Dr. Murphy is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. He is also a professional artist, published author, and widely regarded as one of the most talented practitioners in his field.
Dr. Murphy completed his dental training at the University of Southern California. He then specialized in prosthodontics at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he earned his certificate in Prosthodontics, as well as his Master’s degree using digital modeling to analyze our perception of dental aesthetics.
Dr. Murphy is well known for the precision and artistry in his work. He is also a skilled ceramist and lab technician who fabricates his own crowns and veneers for his patients in order to achieve the highest level of perfection in his work. Dr. Murphy is an adjunct clinical professor for the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Graduate Prosthodontics and specializes in treating patients with complex needs and exceptionally high expectations.
Outside of his work in dentistry, Dr. Murphy is a professional artist, and published author and illustrator. His commissioned works include various watercolors and illustrations for the American Museum of Natural History, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Adirondack League, and other private collectors. However, he is perhaps best known as the author and illustrator of T-Rex Trying…, T-Rex Trying and Trying…, and T-Rex Tries Again… , a trilogy of books containing humorous cartoons published by Penguin Random House. He also illustrated the children’s book, The Book About Nothing , written by New York Times bestselling author Mike Bender.
Dr. Murphy lives in Raleigh with his wife, two daughters, and dog, Toby. He enjoys spending time with his girls, playing hockey, fly fishing, drawing, painting, sculpting, and taking on fun projects with his daughters like building their massive treehouse.
